Miles Doran, reporter and producer answers questions about his frequent tweeting. Doran uses Twitter as a way to keep up on what people are talking about.

Q: How does Twitter benefit journalism, personal to you?
A: I think Twitter provides another source of information — a constant stream of information — from average people who are out there in the world. They share their observations about the world around them on Twitter and that makes it a valuable source for journalists.

Q: How has the internet overall helped you in becoming a journalist?
A: It’s a much easier way to get information, but also transmit articles, photos, and videos.

Q: What is your opinion on blogging vs. print?
A: Print — as in newspapers — are known for being more reliable, accurate, and impartial while bloggers are typically thought of as opinionated. That’s not to say that bloggers aren’t a good source of information, though.

Q: What do you think of the hyper-connectivity twitter brings to the social world? (by that i mean knowing things as soon as they happen)
A: I think it’s great to be tapped in to the pulse of the millions of Twitter users. But like all information, tweets need to be verified and fact-checked.

Q: Does tweeting make reporting helpful or is it just an information overload?
A: It is definitely helpful. From finding witnesses of events to seeing photos taken immediately after something happens, twitter is extremely helpful.

Towson has always been a starting point for the many stories that our parents, friends and professors tell over and over again. For Larry and Julie Kuehner, one of those stories happens to tell of how they met for the first time here at Towson.
